DPA turns 100 in June 2026! 🎂
Plans are picking up pace for our celebration of Davistown Progress Association's centenary of community involvement and representation. Yes, our hall is actually older than our Association :-) The Davistown Progress Hall was built during the days of the Brisbane Water Progress Association, which included Davistown until the suburb was big enough to sustain its own Progress Association. So the hall celebrated its centenary in 2022, but 6th June 2026 is exactly 100 years from the date of the first Annual General Meeting of the Davistown and Yow Yow Progress Association. (The Yow Yow Estate comprised most of the western half of what is now Davistown.)
From 9am to 2pm on 6th June 2026, we'll be holding a Local Business Expo in the Progress Hall and along the waterfront outside. Sole traders, home businesses and locally-resident tradies will be invited to set up a stall to promote their business. Preference will be given to stallholders who can offer a value-added component to their display; e.g. 5-minute massages by a massage therapist, demonstrations or snapshot teaching sessions by a crafter or tradie, style consultations by a hairdresser, quick clothing alterations by a seamstress, certification of documents by a JP, or any other concept you can offer. We also ask that stallholders offer a discount to any current DPA member who books a service while at the Expo.
This will be an excellent opportunity for local home businesses to publicise their services, and for local residents to discover nearby businesses they may not previously have been aware of.
At 7:00 that evening, there will be a gala dinner at Davistown RSL, with local dignitaries, DPA sponsors and guest speakers. DPA members will have booking priority, but the dinner will be open to other members of the community as well. Dress will be semi-formal, with an optional 1920s theme.
Stay tuned for more details!
If you're a local home business owner and you'd like to have a stall at the Expo, please access our online Expression of Interest form and submit it. If you have trouble accessing the online version for any reason, you can download and print a hard copy here, then email a scan/image of the completed form to us at <davistown dot progress at gmail dot com>
